SALKANTAY - MACHUPICCHU 5 DAYS

Experience the “Deep Peru”, hiking one of Peru’s most picturesque landscapes around CUSCO. This 5-days trekking expedition will take you at the base of the sacred SALKANTAY snow peak (6,271 meters; 20,700 feet), considered by the local natives to be the “Guardian Spirit of the Jungle” and will provide you with the opportunity to experience remote native communities and the region’s ecological biodiversity, before reaching the Sanctuary of MACHU PICCHU. You will need a good dose of adrenaline as you hike up a pass above 4600 meters (15,000 feet). The trip is supported with horses for your convenience and we provide you with top quality camping equipment and a very balanced and energetic diet. Want a remote experience in the Andes.

DAY 1: CUSCO - SALKANTAYPAMP.-

Early morning pick up at your hotel then a 4 hours bus ride from CUSCO (3400mt) crossing MOLLEPATA(2700mt ) up to SAYLLAPATA (3500mt), on the way WE we can see quiet andean villages and a nice valley of LIMATAMBO. before arriving in MOLLEPATA we will stop off at which is an Inca temple with one of the finest examples anywhere of INCA polygonal masonry in a long retaining wall , on the upper level are 28 tall niches this place is known as TARAHUASI. Briefly stop in MOLLEPATA just to see its strets and relax for couple minutes, then we continue our journey to the SAYLLAPATA Where have aour breakfast and start a gentle hike ultil trail head in SORAYPAMPA. lunch will be ready for our arriving beacuse the cook will take our transport untill this site. from this site we continue slowly hike at the head of the valley where we arrive to set-off our campsite at SALKANTAYPAMPA (4.000 m.a.s.l)



DAY 2: SALKANTAYPAMPA - COLLPAPAMPA.-
a very special and dietary nutritius breakfast will de given before continue our journey and then we cross to the left bank of a stream then the trail goes steep uphill and comes to a serious of zigzags with a breathtaking of amazing views of SALCANTAY and UMANTAY continuing to the top of the seventh switchback the terrain levels out under SALKANTAY's lateral moraine and drops gently down to the small lake SOYROCOCHA at stopping at this site we can enjoy the biuty of the naure, at aproximately 1.30 hrs walking up, we reach to the highest pass (4,600 m.a.s.l.) from where we can have a stunning scenery of the sacred mountains in the Peruvian Andes UMANTAY and SALKANTAY that will compensate the great effort in reaching the top which is marked by a pile of stones that grows daily as each traveler adds his pebble to thanks the APUS (mountain spirits) for a safe trip and good luck. Then we descend by site named HUAYRACMACH`AY (3800), and continue along this site we´ll see the pyramid shaped peak of HUMANTAY behind, and arrive to HUAYRACPAMPA where we´ll lunch. After nutritious lunch, we will leave this nice scenery anddrop below the tree line and we enter then tropical cloud forest and discover its lush vegetation of wild orchids, bromelias. and other flowers, also humming-birds can be seen, this level is known as a cloud forest and continuing our descend through the groves of bamboos, however don't forget to keep, looking back at the snowpeaks behind you frarned by bamboo fronds. Afer 4 hours of heading down we arrive in the tiny settlement of COLLPAPAMPA at only 2900 m.a.s.l. camping and dinner.



DAY 3: COLLPAPAMPA - LUCMABAMBA.-
After a healthy breakfast the trail continues down the valley into forest from increasingly tall trees and groves of bamboos providing some birdwatching opportunities. This Day is a paradise for birdwatching as f1ocks of colorful tropical birds roam to the forest followed down through bamboo groves and the spectacular cascades and the water air temperature is now warm enough for you to welcome a bath. This is an incredible strecht with begonias, purple orchids and strawberries lying on the paths then after lunch we cross the Santa Teresa river to start a flat hike following track rute untill LUCMABAMBA ideal place to camp.



DAY 4: LUCMABAMBA - HIDROELECTRICA - PUENTE RUINAS.-


Early moorning we begin our difficult climb to Aobamba pass 2700 rn. Aftetwards a short decend. To LLAPTAPATA site and see the this magnificent inka site with a stunning scenery of one of the main highlights in south AMERICA MACHUPICCHU. from this site we discent by increasingly thick vegetation and tall trees some excellent birdwatching opportunities and then we can see the faint outlines. Reaching to la hidreoelectrica we follow the rail tracks heading up the URUBAMBA valley to our last camp site PUENTE RUINAS in AGUAS CALIENTES.



DAY 5: PUENTE RUINAS - MACHUPICCHU - CUSCO.-

After an early morning breakfast we will take a bus ride up to MACHUPICCHU sanctuary and entering early for the best photos opportunities and then spend the rest of the morning visiting and exploring the archaeological sites and take the time to climb up to HUAYNAPICCHU before heading down to AGUAS CALIENTES to aboard the train back to CUSCO.
